Abram Journeys to Egypt

12 Now (A)the Lord said to Abram,

“Go from your country,
And from your relatives
And from your father’s house,
To the land which I will show you;
And (B)I will make you into a great nation,
And (C)I will bless you,
And make your name great;
And you shall (D)be a blessing;
And (E)I will bless those who bless you,
And the one who [a]curses you I will [b]curse.
(F)And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

So Abram went away as the Lord had spoken to him; and (G)Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot, and all their (H)possessions which they had accumulated, and (I)the [c]people which they had acquired in Haran, and they [d]set out for the land of Canaan; (J)so they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land as far as the site of (K)Shechem, to the [e]oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanites were in the land at that time. And the Lord (L)appeared to Abram and said, “(M)To your [f]descendants I will give this land.” So he built (N)an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him. Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent with (O)Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and (P)called upon the name of the Lord. Then Abram journeyed on, continuing toward (Q)the [g]Negev.

Jacob’s Dream

10 Then Jacob departed from (A)Beersheba and went toward (B)Haran. 11 And he [a]happened upon a [b](C)particular place and spent the night there, because the sun had set; and he took one of the stones of the place and made it a support for his head, and lay down in that place. 12 And (D)he had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, (E)the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 Then behold, (F)the Lord was standing [c]above it and said, “I am the Lord, (G)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give (H)to you and to (I)your [d]descendants. 14 Your [e]descendants will also be like (J)the dust of the earth, and you will [f]spread out (K)to the west and to the east, and to the north and to the south; and (L)in you and in your [g]descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, (M)I am with you and (N)will keep you wherever you go, and (O)will bring you back to this land; for (P)I will not leave you until I have done what I have [h]promised you.” 16 Then Jacob (Q)awoke from his sleep and said, “(R)The Lord is certainly in this place, and I did not know it!” 17 And he was afraid and said, “(S)How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

18 So Jacob got up early in the morning, and took (T)the stone that he had placed as a support for his head, and set it up as a memorial stone, and poured oil on its top. 19 Then he named that place [i](U)Bethel; but [j]previously the name of the city had been (V)Luz. 20 Jacob also (W)made a vow, saying, “(X)If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I [k]take, and give me [l](Y)food to eat and garments to wear, 21 and (Z)I return to my father’s house in [m]safety, (AA)then the Lord will be my God. 22 And this stone, which I have set up as a memorial stone, (AB)will be God’s house, and (AC)of everything that You give me I will assuredly give a tenth to You.”

Now there are (A)varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same (B)God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit (C)for the common good. For to one is given the word of (D)wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of (E)knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another (F)faith [a]by the same Spirit, and to another (G)gifts of [b]healing [c]by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the [d]effecting of [e](H)miracles, and to another (I)prophecy, and to another the [f](J)distinguishing of spirits, to another various (K)kinds of tongues, and to another the (L)interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, (M)distributing to each one individually just as He [g]wills.

12 For just (N)as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though they are many, are one body, (O)so also is Christ. 13 For [h](P)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether (Q)Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to (R)drink of one Spirit.

14 For (S)the body is not one part, but many. 15 If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason [i]any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason [j]any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has (T)arranged the parts, each one of them in the body, (U)just as He desired. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 But now (V)there are many parts, but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again, the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, [k]it is much truer that the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; 23 and those parts of the body which we [l]consider less honorable, [m]on these we bestow greater honor, and our less presentable parts become much more presentable, 24 whereas our more presentable parts have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked, 25 so that there may be no [n]division in the body, but that the parts may have the same care for one another. 26 And if one part of the body suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if a part is [o]honored, all the parts rejoice with it.

27 Now you are (W)Christ’s body, and (X)individually parts of it. 28 And God has [p](Y)appointed in (Z)the church, first (AA)apostles, second (AB)prophets, third (AC)teachers, then [q](AD)miracles, then (AE)gifts of healings, helps, (AF)administrations, and various (AG)kinds of tongues. 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of [r]miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not (AH)interpret, do they? 31 But (AI)earnestly desire the greater gifts.

And yet, I am going to show you a far better way.
